AGS have completed a paediatric audiometric booth at the Sheffield’s Children’s Hospital.

Following a site visit from our sales and design team, AGS Noise Control provided full drawings and design coordination for the project’s room.

Scope

As main contractor AGS provided works that covered various requirements for the project including the electrical installation and enabling works. Managed by our nominated Project Manager and Site Supervisor who coordinated regularly with the Trust’s staff to confirm things ran smoothly. Throughout the project, communication channels remained open and our Project Manager endeavoured to clear up any queries from the client as soon as possible, reflected in the quote from the Trust’s Capital Project Manager in the ‘Result’ section of the case study.

The cool purple stretch fabric, complimented by the deep purple audiology door provided a clean, calm finish. The door included a vertical Narrow Lite Vision Panel (DDA Compliant), fabricated by hand in our Melton Mowbray workshop.

The strip out and enabling works took place within AGS’ programme. The existing external windows remained and AGS fitted a manifestation to the glass and sound boards to reduce noise transmission to the host space. Two sets of blinds were also installed to allow for the windows to be covered during testing to eliminate risk of distraction from outside activity.

Furthermore, AGS provided a vinyl ramp, essential for accessibility into the space for all patients to undergo the vital testing. Connecting the external atrium space to the testing booth without affecting fire escape routes or jutting into an active corridor where people pass.

The rest of the project included floating floors with heavy contract grade carpet tiles, suspended ceilings and stretch fabric finishes to the walls. Alongside, white polyester powder coated skirting boards and ceiling baffles.

With regard to ventilation, AGS installed a dedicated, silenced air conditioning system with a fresh air input. As well as installing the external air conditioning condenser located at the external walls of the building. The lighting in the room was managed through switches located next to the door within the dado.

Patch Plates

As a Paediatric room, patch plates are required for VRA equipment, AGS supplied and installed these. The specialist plates are required for the function of the lightboxes and speakers on either side of the patient during testing.
