BRUSH Transformers HV Test Facility – East Midlands

Overview

AGS were the principal contractor for a flagship high voltage transformers test facility for leading UK manufacturer, BRUSH Transformers.

In order to undertake pre-delivery noise tests of the electrical transformers manufactured by the firm from its purpose-designed facility in Loughborough, Leicestershire, a low ambient noise level was required. This was very difficult to achieve in a workshop area with a rail line directly behind the building.

AGS previously built a test cell facility at the site which had been in use for almost 15 years. Pleased with the previous project, BRUSH Transformers requested AGS Noise Control provide a second, larger transformer test facility area to support their continued growth.

The new testing area, accessible by an eight-metre-high automatic sliding sound control door, enables ease of access for high-voltage power transformers. The space was completed with a control room, acoustic personnel doors, and laminated vision panels so that clients could witness tests.

AGS also supplied and installed the structural steel work for vital infrastructure in the space.

Challenges and highlights

The AGS Project team, through close collaboration with the client maintained an efficient program. With installation always on schedule and completed with site downtime kept to a minimum. The facility was a complete success and has been in operation for over two years. Allowing BRUSH Transformers to accurately acoustically test their world class products.
